Welp, the new search filters make app search even worse. Now you have to deselect anti-features for each search rather than the way it was before when you could set your preference once and forget it.

Shit like “AI chat” and crypto wallets have their own categories now — so you can just deselect them like anti-features and not have to see them, right? Wrong. Categories are hierarchical, not toggleable, so you just get funneled down into subcategories with no optout.
This screenshot only shows the first half of app categories, sorted alphabetically A-M. Because in their infinite wisdom we now have to wade through 17 game types, and other main categories have been divvied up granularly in the same way.

So overall there is even less chance to sort through the growing mass of apps, and no option to filter out stuff you don’t want to see or have no interest in. I get it, there are F-droid devs who are really invested in techbro cult shit, and they think everybody need to share in their dumb kool-aid. It’s their app, and they designed it for themselves, not for general users.

Looking forward to try out their filters. My personal pipedream is to never have to see another crypto wallet when browsing F-droid. Well, that was the original pipedream, now it includes “AI” crap.

You’re right, my mistake! I forgot exactly what Shizuku does. Please disregard.

So, I’m not familiar with the Shizuku/Canta method, but would it be possible to install microG [F-droid repo] to spoof the presence of Google Play?
I’m anti-AI due to distrust in capitalism and our pseudo-democratic plutocracies, the profit motive to replace the human workforce, the reckless criminal-incompetence of its implementation, and apparent stupidity of the average hairless primate in understanding that you can never trust a correlation engine… but it’s just a tool
Doesn’t that whole preamble prove that “AI” isn’t in fact just a tool? Or rather, that it’s a tool designed for all the wrong things? There’s a well known Audre Lorde quote that springs to mind.

Yeah, because flooding the web with inane slop was bad. That’s not something you wanna be part of enabling.
I was talking about Lemmy communities, but yeah.
There are plenty of Linux communities already 🤷

I’ve been running custom Android ROMs for over a decade, and Linux as my daily laptop driver for almost as long. I have to say this testimonial sounds more alluring to me than installing one mobile distro or other that may or may not work with all my phone’s hardware, depending on device model.
The price is a turnoff, but I understand if the project doesn’t have the muscle to negotiate it further down. Then there is the puzzling FuriOS (is an angry operating system supposed to appeal to buyers?) instead of one of the established Linux phone distros/spins. AFAICT it’s Droidian under the hood, but the rebranding seems weird to me.
The comments from others here don’t seem super encouraging, but I still think the end user review up top shows that FLX is closer to ready than most projects I’ve seen?

Mozilla exists because one company tried to own the front door to the web, and an open community made sure it never could. The same play is running again, one layer up.
Thanks for democratising the tools to ruin the web completely for users— oh wait! 💩🦖
I for one would really appreciate just one single FLOSS community that flat out banned any and all “AI” contributed code instead of following the approach of others. Somebody have the spine to stand out, plz.
I’m not a developer, but I wanna be able to keep up with open source news without having to navigate a slippery slop(e) into clanker dominated territory.
I must be tired, i didn’t even notice the “AI” tells 🤦
On the surface, this sounded like a nice project to connect people in a real world network and exchange tools or services. Pity that the entire readme is a wall of generated word salad, apparently aimed at other bots rather than flesh and blood developers.
I’d be interested in a network like the one outlined here, developed and maintained by actual people, just not whatever this is…
