Hmm. Well today I learned I can’t read.
Just a smol with big opinions about AFVs and data science. The onlyfans link is a rickroll.

There are lots of forks, fortunately, but the licenses likely will screw over any trying-to-be-legit small engineering shops :(

Fuck, ain’t THAT the truth. Solidedge makes the autodesk suite look like something from startrek in comparison. UI less intuitive than openscad and buggier than freecad. And don’t get me started on what a terrifying amount of the modern world runs on the absolute shitshow that is Parasolid.
Someone said the same thing two months ago, why necro this?

It’s all I can think of whenever anyone starts talking about flashing a new OS onto their soldering iron. It’s a soldering iron.
This is such a weird one, they keep doing cool open source stuff but their hardware is so bad it almost feels like they’re, idk, “FOSSwashing” their products to get nerds to buy them. I really, really tried to daily the PPPro, but man I just couldn’t.
As a heavy CAD user, openscad is a neat gimmick and a great way to teach parameters and it’s integreatability with software tools is second to none, but it’s not useful for doing “real” work - and freecad is a project I love and support because it’s got a great personality. We desperately need a robust open source alternative for CAD to do what blender has done for polymodeling and animation to escape the hell that is the major engineering companies.
Uuuuuuuunfortunately freecad just sucks. At least, right now. It’ll get there, and maybe with people turning on the mega software companies it’ll get there even faster now, but man step one will be kidnapping a UX dev to work on it (and step two will be to fix everything to do with compound faces).
