Linux Phones@lemmy.ca•Users are now getting Android's convoluted sideloading process, and everyone hates itEnglish
30·22 days agoNormies keep falling for scams all the time. They fall for scam on windows, over the phone and in person. We generally try to come up with rules that protect normies without overly complicating lives for everyone else. Like I have to go to a bank personally to increase single transaction limit over certain amount but I don’t have unlock some secret options and wait 24 hours every time I want to wire money to a new account.
A warning saying “this app is not trusted, don’t install it if someone else instructed you to do so” would be enough here. Advanced users should be able to disable this warning. That’s it.

Linux Phones@lemmy.ca•Fairphone 6 + PostmarketOS fully working fingerprint sensor!English
0·1 month agoI tried to become a fairphone partner but thus far they haven’t responded and i don’t think they will. Which is quite a shame.
It is a shame. I guess they won’t care unless this project gets actual users that can push for this. Let’s hope once this is fully working people will start migrating. I sure will try.

0·1 month agoYep, that’s what I used. (I also donate regularly to postmarketOS).
Out of curiosity, are you cooperating with postmarketOS or Fairphone on this in any way? I’m wondering why they didn’t manage to do anything like this with all the resources they have? I assumed it’s simply not possible because of locked drivers and that we will have to wait for something like the next version of Pineophone to get fully working Linux phone.

1·1 month agoI don’t like doing it but let’s rewind. You said:
I have been driving electric for 13 years and know you are absolutely full of shit. Sit down.
I showed how you were wrong and now you claim it’s somehow silly of me to even argue aboutit because… I don’t know… it’s fine when people say stupid shit? I hope you’re just trolling because otherwise it’s just sad.

And I’m not saying I’m an expert on EV chargers around the world. You are. You claim to know how chargers around me work even though you have no idea where it is. So… nice projection. Very nice one indeed.

Zunder: Western Europe only.

Repsol: Spain only.

Endesa: Western Europe and Latin America only.

But yes, please, keep telling me from US how EV charging stations operators are the same everywhere.
Or even better, stop talking about things you have no idea about.

1·1 month agoI guess you’re right. I will buy a gasoline car so I don’t have to use apps to charge it and I will drive to a gym in a different town couple times a week so I don’t have to use an app to enter it. This will sure help climate change.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Play Store blocks AuroraStore, hurting GrapheneOS users
1·1 month agoOk, you go and tell all the companies to stop using apps.
My car charger? Controlled with an app.
Location of car chargers? In an app.
My bike GPS? Controlled with an app.
My gym entry? An app.
Climbing wall? An app.
You tell all those companies to stop using apps and add control panels to everything, go back to paper maps and RFID entry cards. I’m sure they will do it if you explain to them that there are dozens of users that don’t want to register with Google. Dozens!

0·1 month agoPlatform is not the issue, apps are. Even on a Linux phone you will have to run android apps and you will have to install them from somewhere. And for most apps Play Store is the only place where apps are uploaded.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•We should push other phone OEM's such as Fairphone and Samsung to work with PostmarketOS, GrapheneOS, and Ubuntu Touch
1·5 months agoGrapheOS doesn’t like anyone. I don’t even think they should be treated as part of open phone community. They are hostile to everything that they didn’t make.
I tried different things over the years and each time I simply forget to update the tool and just keep track of what needs to be done in my head. In my experience those things are useful for organizing teams. For a one person project a piece of paper should be enough.
