This seems to be a fork created after some internet drama a few months back. Spacebar (formerly Fosscord) is the original project to develop a Discord API-compatible replacement, both server and frontend. Fermi was one of the frontends developed for it and eventually became used as the official Spacebar client. I had set up some servers on it earlier this year when Discord’s first round of age verification enshittification began, but didn’t have much uptake on people migrating from Discord so I stopped following it. When I looked back more recently it seems there was some drama and a falling out between the Spacebar backend devs and the Fermi frontend dev and they’ve both forked each others’ projects and are now trying to go their own ways. Not sure that can feasibly work but ok. I had high hopes for Spacebar in that it aimed to be fully API compatible, but seeing the already small community fracturing is not a good look for either side of the project.
